Charlton youngster commits future to club
Charlton Athletic, 12:50, September 5, 2009 ,
Jonjo Shelvey has committed his future to Charlton by signing a one-year contract extension to keep him at the Valley until 2012.
The 17-year-old had been heavily linked with a move away from the Addicks in the summer with Chelsea reportedly having a bid for the promising midfielder knocked by the south London club.
Charlton have made a flying start to the season and Shelvey's decision to extend his stay with the League One side is another positive step forward for the club according to Phil Parkinson.
"We're delighted by the news. I've said all along we want to keep Jonjo and we want him to be a part of a successful team this season and for many seasons to come," the Addicks boss told the club's website.
"It's a really positive step for everyone at the club."
