Czech hitman waits on Addicks

Charlton Athletic, 16:03, November 19, 2008 ,

Charlton are weighing up whether to sign Czech outfit FC Brno's striker Ales Besta in January, but the player is not very hopeful.

The player has enjoyed a week-long trial at the Valley after being handed an opportunity to impress Addicks boss Alan Pardew having fallen out of favour at his current club. However, despite Besta wanting a move to Charlton and feeling the club were happy with him, it seems he is not confident of securing a move in the transfer window because the Addicks want to wait until next summer when he is available on a Bosman free.
Besta told MF DNES: "Charlton would like to sign me in the summer, when I would come on a free transfer.
"Together with my agent Stejskal we refused this as, in that case, I would be without football for half a year.
"So they have taken some time to think over whether they will sign me now in the winter, or not. However, I don't see it being very possible."
On his time at Charlton, he added: "I saw how it works at a high-quality club, what it should look like.
"Assistants as well as main coaches are in charge of training sessions and players care only about football.
"The stadium is absolutely wonderful. Also, the interest in football in England is more than our country. A lot of pages about football is in the press every day.
"If it does not turn out well for me (with Charlton), I will be waiting for another offer to come. So far I have nothing else specific, so we will see."
