Pardew calls for killer instinct
Charlton Athletic, 15:02, September 15, 2008 ,
Alan Pardew said Charlton must learn to kill games off after they crashed to a heavy 3-1 home defeat by high-flyers Wolves.
Nicky Bailey had put the home side ahead in the third minute with a stunning volley, but Sylvain Ebanks-Blake levelled from the penalty spot after half-time before substitute Sam Vokes ensured the points with a late double.
Charlton have now lost three games from five and Pardew admitted they must stop squandering games from a position of control.
He said: "I thought the penalty decision was harsh and changed the game. But we did not react well to it, either.
"As a group we cannot be proud of the performance from the last 20 minutes. Tying down games and reacting to goals is something we need to talk about and get right.
"It was a shame for Nicky Bailey too, because he has been terrific for us since joining.
"The goal he scored was fantastic, as good as we have seen down here.
"Wolves are a good side and are flying but the gap between us is not too big. We need to do a bit of learning as a group though before we are as good as them."
