Striker debut to spark forwards
Charlton Athletic, 19:54, November 21, 2008 ,
Alan Pardew can't wait to see how loan signing Martyn Waghorn copes with his Charlton debut against Sheffield United on Saturday.
Pardew captured the 18-year-old striker on a one-month loan from Sunderland on Monday after tracking him since spotting him in a youth team match almost a year ago.
And the manager hopes at the very least that his arrival sparks renewed competition among the Addicks' frontmen.
"Marytn played against our youth team last year and caught my eye," Pardew told the club's official website.
"I've had my scouts track him since that night and I think he's an outstanding talent.
"We feel he's somebody that might give us a nice spark and he's certainly brought that to the training ground. Hopefully he'll bring that to the team.
"He'll be involved in the squad for Saturday for sure. He has tremendous strength for a young boy and a great enthusiasm to want to come and play for us. I'd expect his arrival to send a little message to the other strikers that they must deliver now."
