Ancelotti linked with striker move
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has been linked with a big-money January swoop for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll.
The Italian boss is said to be in the market for a new striker due to the form and fitness problems suffered by Didier Drogba over the course of the current campaign.
It has now been speculated that he could turn his attentions to Carroll, who has been in impressive form this season and made his England debut in the defeat to France last month.
However, Carroll is on a long-term contract at St James' Park and Chelsea will have to pay a big fee to tempt Newcastle to sell, regardless of reports that the striker is said to be unhappy at the sacking of Chris Hughton as manager on Monday.
A fee in the region of £17million has been suggested in the past, although Newcastle will be desperate to retain his services and are unlikely to allow him to leave in January unless the offer is just too good to refuse.
