Big guns battle for German star

Chelsea, 13:11, July 21, 2010 ,

Manchester United and Chelsea are to go head to head to sign German World Cup star Mesut Ozil in a cut price deal from Werder Bremen.

The Bundesliga side were initially holding out for £20m for the 21-year-old, but they have almost halfed their asking price due to fears he will walk out on them for nothing when his contract expires in a year's time.
Sir Alex Ferguson is a huge admirer of the Bremen midfielder after his impressive performances in South Africa and it's been revealed United almost signed him as a teenager as well.
The Sun claims the United manager is even willing to sell Dimitar Berbatov and Anderson to raise funds to secure Ozil's signature.
Chelsea are also keen on the player after losing playmaker Joe Cole to Liverpool on a free transfer and despite Yossi Benayoun's arrival as his replacement, Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is known to be in the market for further additions.
