Blues announce shock exit

Chelsea, 13:57, September 16, 2009 ,

Chelsea have confirmed that Peter Kenyon is set to step down as chief executive of the club at the end of October.

Kenyon has held the position since he walked away from the same role at rivals Manchester United in 2003 but the Blues have now confirmed he will step down.
Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has paid tribute to the work that Kenyon has done at the club and believes he will be sorely missed.
"Peter has done a fantastic job for Chelsea in the last five-and-a-half years and has been absolutely central to the success on and off the field we have had during that time," Buck said.
"Without his football knowledge and business acumen Chelsea would not be where we are today.
Meanwhile, Kenyon says he is also sad to be leaving but will make a return to football once he has taken a break.
Kenyon explained: "I am extremely proud of my time at Chelsea and of the friendships I have forged with everyone here. I have been in football for 15 years and I can say with great certainty and pleasure the experience at Chelsea is one of the best I have had."
