Chelsea have been told they will have to pay £8million if they wish to land Cesar Azpilicueta after failing with a £5million bid.

The Blues are keen to continue their spending spree by bringing in a new right-back, following the departure of Jose Bosingwa, and the Marseille star is boss Roberto Di Matteo's top target. Paulo Ferreira is the only specialised right-back at the club and although Branislav Ivanovic can play there if needed he prefers central defence and Di Matteo wants Azpilicueta on board. However the French club are not willing to let the Spanish international leave on the cheap despite their financial problems and are reported to have rejected Chelsea's opening bid. Chelsea are now expected to go back with a new improved offer for the 22-year-old, but they will have to get closer to £8million if they are to have any chance of striking deal.
