Capital rivals join race to sign Chelsea star

Chelsea, 11:56, January 11, 2012

Transfer-listed defender Alex is reportedly a leading target for QPR new manager Mark Hughes as he prepares to leave Chelsea.

The Brazilian is set to head out of the Stamford Bridge exit door this month after told he could leave by Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas at the start of December.
Alex indicated last week that he favours a return to Brazil but he could yet stay in London with QPR said to have made a bid for the 29-year-old centre back's services on Wednesday.
Hughes has been given the go-ahead to invest heavily in new players at Loftus Road after being unveiled as Neil Warnock's replacement on Tuesday and one of his first priorities is to strengthen his defence.
Alex had been connected with QPR earlier this month when Warnock was still in charge, and it now appears a move to Rangers could still go ahead.
