London calling for Sheva

Chelsea, 10:07, August 12, 2009 ,

Andrei Shevchenko has revealed that he will stay with Chelsea for the final year of his contract in a bid to finally prove his worth.

The 32-year-old Ukraine international, who cost Chelsea £30.8million from AC Milan three years ago, has endured a nightmare spell at Stamford Bridge in which time he has managed just nine goals and spent large spells on the substitutes' bench or away on loan.
Shevchenko spent last season on loan at his former club Milan, where he failed to recapture the goalscoring form of his halcyon days, and has since snubbed the chance of a return to his homeland with Dynamo Kiev.
As a result he will now look to try and force his way into former Rossoneri coach Carlo Ancelotti's plans following his move from Milan to Stamford Bridge in the summer. And, despite his omission from the Community Shield squad at Wembley on Sunday, Shevchenko will be looking to feature in the Blues' bid for Premier League, Champions League, Carling Cup and FA Cup glory this season.
The striker said: "I still have a year left on my contract with Chelsea and I want to stay in London until it expires. Only God knows what is going to happen then."
It appears that Shevchenko will spend most of his time watching from the sidelines this campaign, but punters who feel he might finally produce the goods for the Londoners could use their free bet to back him to make an impact on the top goalscorer charts.
