Chelsea's hopes of landing Rafael da Silva have been hit by the news the defender is set to land a new deal with Manchester United.

The Blues are on the look out for a new full-back and reports had claimed they were keeping tabs on Rafael's contract situation at Old Trafford with a view to making a bid. However the Brazilian's agent Cassiano Pereira claims the 21-year-old is thrilled to be extending his stay, having joined United in 2008, news which will disappoint the Blues. Sir Alex Ferguson views the defender as a key member of his squad and Pereira is certain he will only get better as he matures and gets more experienced. Pereira told Estadao ESPN: "Rafael is very happy to stay at Manchester United, who are one of the giants of world football and always play in Europe's biggest competitions. "Manchester United are the club that opened the door to Europe for him. He is loved, respected and has prestige at the club. "We are all very happy that he is renewing his contract."
