Spanish star lined-up?
Chelsea, 14:42, November 1, 2009 ,
Chelsea are being tipped to make a £25m bid for Valencia striker David Villa if they are successful in winning their transfer ban.
The Blues have appealed to FIFA over the decision to prevent them from strengthening their squad and are hoping to be given the go-ahead to bring in new players by the turn of the year.
The Spanish international is believed to be Carlo Ancelotti's top target and Villa's club have made it clear they are now willing to listen to offers for his services due to their huge debts.
Ideally, the striker would like to stay in Spain but neither Real Madrid or Barcelona are expected to make new bids for him after failed attempts during the summer.
The Blues are also tracking Napoli forward Marek Hamsik who would cost them in the region of £20m.
Ancelotti would like to add to his squad in January to help him plug the gaps that will be left by involvement of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel and Salomon Kalou in the African Nations Cup.
