Striker puts French misery behind him with new deal

Chelsea, 10:50, June 25, 2010 ,

Striker Nicolas Anelka has set his sights on winning more trophies after signing a one-year contract extension at Chelsea.

Anelka has endured a miserable few weeks with the French national squad after being booted out of the World Cup by his country following a heated half-time row with coach Raymond Domenech as his side crashed out of the finals in South Africa.
But things are far calmer for the 31-year-old on the domestic front and he is delighted to have pledged his future to the Blues until June 2012 after agreeing a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
Anelka said: "When I first came to Chelsea I wanted to stay much longer than I did in the past with other clubs.
"It is a big club, you play with big players and I like this club, I like London.
"There is no need to move anymore and so I am very glad to sign a new contract and I know we will play in big games and win titles. I am very glad."
Boss Carlo Ancelott added: "Nicolas is a fantastic player who has good technical qualities and movement.
"When I was coach at Juventus I wanted to buy him, so it is good now he has signed for me and I think Chelsea is his home. I look forward to working with him for one year more."
Anelka has appeared 123 times for Chelsea since arriving from Bolton in January 2008, scoring 42 goals.
