Zhirkov hopeful on Blues future

Chelsea's Yuri Zhirkov has vowed to fight for a starting spot but admits he may leave if he cannot secure regular action.

The Russian international, an £18million signing from CSKA Moscow last summer, has found it hard to break into the Chelsea side due to the form of Ashley Cole and Florent Malouda.
Zhirkov has now revealed he is eager to prove himself at Chelsea and win a place in the starting line-up, but admits he could seek a January move if he is not given a chance.
"I'll certainly get a chance in the next few months and I'll try to use it completely," he said.
"Then, in the winter, everything will probably depend on whether I got this chance and how I used it.
"We are currently in brilliant form and getting past Malouda and Cole is problematic. Everyone understands about the competition: once you are on the bench you can be there for a long time. But I will definitely get a chance.
"The thoughts when you are watching your team play are always the same: you support, worry and your soul wants to be on the pitch to help."
Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak Moscow have both been linked with moves to bring Zhirkov back to Russia.
