Hammers too strong for U's

First-half goals from Nicky Maynard and Mark Noble saw West Ham to a 2-1 pre-season victory at Colchester.

Maynard broke up play in midfield in the 16th minute before latching on to Carlton Cole's knockdown to finish the move.
The former Bristol City forward caused problems once more when John-Joe O'Toole brought him down in the area for Mark Noble to convert after the half hour.
Anthony Wordsworth converted O'Toole's low cross to give the U's hope before half-time, but they could not extend the Premier League new boys any further.
