Ward writes off U's play-off prospects

John Ward has all but written off Colchester's chances of landing a play-off place.

The U's moved to within six points of the top six thanks to a nine-match unbeaten run but saw that sequence come to an end with Tuesday's 3-1 reverse at Walsall. It leaves 10th-placed Colchester nine points adrift with seven matches remaining. "Realistically, we are out of the picture now," boss Ward told the Green 'Un. "There was just a chance if he had won on Tuesday night, but we're not going to make the play-offs now." He added: "However, if we won seven out of seven, then who knows what that will bring?"
