Defender wants permanent move

Coventry City, 16:14, November 19, 2009

Coventry defender Elliott Ward has rejected a loan move to Notts County despite the Sky Blues signing Richard Wood this week.

Ward was offered the chance of regular first-team football with the League Two side after Wood's arrival from Sheffield Wednesday pushed him further down the pecking order at the Ricoh Arena.

The centre back has been told that he doesn't figure in boss Chris Coleman's plans and Notts County director of football Sven Goran Eriksson had identified him as a replacement for Sol Campbell but Ward is believed to favour a permanent switch when the transfer window reopens in January.

"Elliott has turned down the chance to move, albeit on loan, but something might happen in January," Coleman told the Coventry Telegraph.

"I have discussed the situation with Elliott and he is down the pecking order so something may happen."
