England U-21 star fee agreed

Coventry City, 16:19, August 12, 2009 ,

Coventry are closing in on the capture of England Under-21 defender Martin Cranie after agreeing an undisclosed fee with Portsmouth.

The 22-year-old is expected to undergo a medical at Coventry before wrapping up a move to the Ricoh Arena in the next 24 hours.
The highly-regarded full-back has been on the lookout for a transfer away from Fratton Park this summer after failing to break into the first team on the south coast.
He made just two Premier League appearances during his three years at Pompey but did impress for England at this summer's European Championships, scoring the opening goal in the dramatic semi-final triumph over hosts Sweden.
If, as expected, the deal goes through this week then Cranie should make his Sky Blues debut in Saturday's Championship clash against Barnsley.
