Steve Davis has promised Torquay they will come up against a different Crewe outfit to the one they brushed aside with ease back in November.

The Alex boss takes his charges to Plainmoor this weekend in a crucial tussle for both promotion-chasing sides, with Crewe having jumped into the final play-off spot on the back of a superb 14-match unbeaten run. Davis admits his side's 3-0 home defeat to Torquay was their worst performance of the season, coming in what was Dario Gradi's last league game in charge of the club. "We were very poor that day and are a much better team now," Davis said. "That is to take nothing away from Torquay, who played very well. "Torquay can expect a different Crewe Alexandra side on Saturday and we are going there to get the points we need." Davis will assess Nick Powell and Dave Artell on Friday as the influential pair both struggle with hamstring complaints.
