Phillips keen on Alex stay
Crewe goalkeeper Steve Phillips admits he would like to end his playing days at Gresty Road.
The well-travelled 34-year-old is out of contract this summer and talks over his future are expected this week, with the issue having been placed on the backburner ahead of Sunday's npower League Two play-off final triumph over Cheltenham. "I possibly see myself finishing my career here," said Phillips. "I'm out of contract. I've not spoken to Steve (Davis, manager) much yet. "I didn't see the need for the distraction. We got Sunday's game out of the way and were on the right end of what we wanted to do. I am out of contract and I'll see what comes from Steve and see what comes from anywhere else." Phillips believes Crewe's return to League One after three seasons in the fourth tier is richly deserved. He added: "It's a phenomenal club. It's a one off and there's no club in the country like it. It deserves to be in a higher league. The stadium, the ability of the coaches in the academy, the infrastructure, the training ground - everything deserves to be in a higher league than League Two.
