Australia see off Pakistan at MCG
Cricket, 13:06, December 30, 2009 ,
Nathan Hauritz was the star for Australia as his maiden first class five-wicket haul helped them to a First Test win over Pakistan.
The home side claimed a convincing 170-run victory in Melbourne just before lunch on the final day at the MCG as Hauritz eclipsed his previous best bowling figures of 4-86 in the win.
The spinner ended the day five for 101 as the tourists were bowled out for 251 in their second innings.
They had went into the final day at 249 for eight, chasing a world-record 422 for what would have been a stunning victory but Australia always had the edge and, when captain Mohammad Yousuf was caught by Simon Katich off Hauritz at short leg for 61, the game looked up.
Saeed Ajmal was then caught at mid-wicket by man-of-the-match Shane Watson for 10 and Australia could celebrate victory.
