Bravo ton helps tourists in Adelaide
Cricket, 11:27, December 4, 2009 ,
Dwayne Bravo's century helped West Indies to a decent total of 336-6 on the opening day of the second Test against Australia.
The tourists need a victory to keep the series alive in and Bravo's 104, helped by Shivnarine Chanderpaul's dogged 62, gave them hope in Adelaide on an entertaining day, with the video referral system also playing its part.
West Indies opted to bat after winning the toss and started well with skipper Chris Gayle striking three fours and a six within the first three overs but he then edged off the shoulder of the bat and was caught by wicketkeeper Brad Haddin for 26.
Bravo went on to be the star of the innings and his third Test hundred contained 12 fours and a six and moved the Windies on from an an initially disappointing score of 119-3.
Bravo survived an lbw decision four balls before being dismissed - being called back after a replay ruled the ball was going over while
Chanderpaul was eventually also given out on 62 when caught behind after another referral.
Australia will be satisfied at taking six wickets on a decent batting surface, though, Shane Watson claiming two in the final session after Doug Bollinger had also taken a brace early on.
Mitchell Johnson and Nathan Hauritz were the other successful bowlers for the home side on a competitive day at the Adelaide Oval.
