Onions: It's 'game on' in Durban
Cricket, 10:24, December 27, 2009 ,
England's Graham Onions says the second Test in Durban is "in the balance" after a late rally dragged England back into contention.
South Africa opted to bat first on day one and had Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis to thank as they reached a credible score of 160-2, with England looking in real danger of crumbling.
However, three wickets after the tea break ensured the tourists remained in contention to emerge victorious as the Proteas ended on 175-5 after bad light halted play early.
And right-armer Onions admits the second Test could now go either way after England's late rally.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Without a doubt the game's in the balance. They batted very nicely, with Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis playing really well.
"Obviously a little bit of madness from AB de Villiers to (help us) get that vital wicket was key for us, and then for myself to get JP Duminy out as well.
"I think we're in a pretty good position, we just need to bowl well tomorrow morning. It's going to be vital to start as well as we did today and it'll be game on."
