Australia took a big step to winning the first Test against Pakistan after establishing a lead of 307 by stumps on day three.

Shane Watson and Michael Clarke's unbeaten fourth wicket stand of 71 gave the Aussies the edge in Melbourne after the tourists had threatened to come back into the game.
Misbah-ul-Haq and Umar Akmal both made quick half centuries as Pakistan rapidly moved on from their overnight total of 109-4 before Doug Bollinger ripped through their batting order with the new ball, taking three wickets in four overs as Pakistan were all out for 258.
Australia made a nervy start to their second innings, Simon Kaitch going for two off the bowling of Mohammad Asif before Ricky Ponting fell for 12.
Mike Hussey then went for four as Pakistan looked to get back in the match before Clarke came to the crease and steadied the ship with the help of Watson as the Aussies closed on 111-3.
Watson will resume on day four at the MCG on 64 not out as he goes in search of his maiden Test century as Australia look to bat Pakistan out of contention.
