Prior wants batting improvement
Cricket, 10:13, December 3, 2009 ,
Matt Prior is aiming to improve his form in one-day internationals after managing just two half-centuries in 52 matches.
The 27-year-old Sussex wicketkeeper-batsman is disappointed that, with his status as a Test player, he has not done more to enhance his reputation with the bat in the shorter format of cricket.
Prior can point to the fact that he has played in almost every position in the top nine as an excuse, while he is aiming to put things right in his current number six spot on Friday as England look to defeat South Africa at Kingsmead to secure the five-match ODI series.
On his mid-20s ODI average, Prior said: "I've had a lot of time looking at it and thinking about it.
"I've now played more than 50 games but I've always played them in chunks.
"Up until recently, I've had five games here or there and then dropped out - then maybe back for another three, batting in a different position.
"Then out again, and then another four games in another different position.
"There wasn't really that continuity."
He added: "Ultimately, you can't make excuses. It is down to me, putting performances in."
