Veteran's Aussie future in doubt

Cricket, 13:57, January 8, 2009 ,

Australia have dropped Matthew Hayden for their one-day and Twenty20 games against South Africa, with youngster David Warner called up.

Hayden has been scratching around for form, averaging just 19.50 in the recent three Test against the Proteas, and his omission has led to questions over his international future.
The Aussies will seek some revenge for their 2-1 Test series loss when they play two Twenty20 fixtures and five ODI's against South Africa, but they have seen a number of players hit by injury.
All-rounders Andrew Symonds (knee) and Shane Watson (back) are unavailable along with pace bowler Brett Lee (ankle), while Mitchell Johnson will be rested from the Twenty20 matches and the first two one-dayers and Michael Clarke will be absent for Twenty20 games due to a thumb problem.
Exciting prospect David Warner, who normally opens for New south Wales, gets his chance in the 20-over version of the game, while paceman Shaun Tait has been named in both squads.
The first Twenty20 game takes place in Melbourne on January 11, with the second in Brisbane on January 13, before the one-day series begins on January 16 at the MCG.

Australia Twenty20 squad: Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Hussey (vice-capt), David Hussey, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin, Shaun Marsh, Shaun Tait, David Warner, Ryan Harris, Cameron White, Nathan Hauritz.

Australia one-day international squad: Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke (vice-capt), Brad Haddin, James Hopes, Nathan Bracken, Shaun Marsh, Michael Hussey, David Hussey, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, Cameron White, Shaun Tait, Peter Siddle.
