Eagles raid Hammers for striker

Crystal Palace, 12:12, June 21, 2009 ,

Crystal Palace have won the race to sign West Ham striker Freddie Sears on loan for the entire 2009/10 campaign.

The youngster is in big demand this summer as Hammer boss Gianfranco Zola attempts to find him regular first-team football following 24 appearances since his debut in March 2008.
Sheffield Wednesday and Peterborugh made unsuccessful bids to land the 19-year-old who as recently as last Thursday had not made a decision on his temporary home.
But the Eagles have now swooped much to the delight of Selhurst Park chief Neil Warnock.
Speaking ahead of the deal, he said: "I've put it to Freddie that we play a lot of youngsters and give them opportunities and I feel this is the right club for him."
