Warnock misses Danny boy

Crystal Palace, 12:05, July 10, 2009

Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has admitted he expects striker Danny Webber to join Middlesbrough.

The former Manchester United trainee is a free agent after seeing his contract at Sheffield United come to an end and Warnock had hoped to bring the 27-year-old to Selhurst Park.

Palace are on the look-out for a new forward, with Shefki Kuqi opting to leave the club after his contract ended, with Webber one of Warnock's top targets.

However, the Palace boss now expects Webber to join Boro after the north-east club made their interest in the player known.

Speaking to the Croydon Advertiser, Warnock said: "It looks as if Danny will be going to Middlesbrough - it's difficult for us to compete with their money."

Warnock may now step up his interest in Serbian trialist Goran Maric who scored in Palace's 4-0 friendly win over Boreham Wood on Thursday.
