Clough eager to start

Derby County, 13:31, January 7, 2009 ,

Derby chairman Adam Pearson has denied that the appointment of Nigel Clough as manger has anything to do with sentimentality.

Clough will be paraded in front of the fans ahead of tonight's Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Manchester United, although David Lowe will officially be in charge of the team, but Pearson denies his appointment has anything to do with the success his father Brian enjoyed at the club.
Pearson told the official website: "We wouldn't bring him in if we didn't think Nigel could win games and if he wouldn't be able to improve the squad of players we've got."
Clough himself is eager to get started following a decade at Burton Albion who he leaves sitting pretty at the top of the Blue Square Premier League and he says the opportunity to manage the Rams was just good to turn down.
He told the clubs official website, "This is a fantastic opportunity for me and one that I relish."
"Derby County has everything - tremendous support, a first-class stadium, magnificent training facilities and an ambitious ownership group looking to grow the club even further."
"I know the club inside-out. It has always had a special place in mine and my family's heart and I know that this is one of the most exciting jobs in football."
Former assistant boss Chris Hutchings , who had been in temporary charge of the side, will now leave the club.
