Hendrick hands Rams a boost
Jeff Hendrick's wrist injury is not as serious as first feared and Derby boss Nigel Clough hopes he can face Sheffield Wednesday.
Midfielder Hendrick, 20, was hurt during a friendly defeat at Chesterfield at the weekend and he was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure where x-rays revealed he had not suffered a fracture.
Last season's young player of the year visited a specialist on Monday morning and was told he has a soft tissue injury.
A relieved Clough told the club's official website: "We feared the worst to be honest when he went down like he did and how long he was down for, so we're pleased he won't be out for a while and we're hoping to have him available for the weekend.
"All being well, Jeff will get a splint and he'll be able to train later in the week with a view to being involved Saturday.
"But at the moment he is very sore and he won't be involved against Scunthorpe in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night, which was the case anyway because of his international commitments with the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad."
