Nigel Clough was pleased to get Derby's pre-season campaign under way despite seeing his side slip to a 2-1 defeat against Mansfield.
The Rams boss utilised 22 players during the run out at Field Mill and although Theo Robinson's penalty gave the visitors a half-time lead, an inexperienced team conceded twice in the second period.
Clough told the club's official website: "Before the game we talked about avoiding injuries and the players getting minutes under their belts, and that's exactly what we got.
"It's early days but it was a good, physical workout.
"It's all about getting back into the routine of heading, kicking and just playing football again, so it was good to get back into action.
"We're not going to get too concerned by pre-season results, it's all about building up to the first game of the season and beyond right now."
