Beckford eyed after Leeds rebuff Rovers
Doncaster Rovers, 19:09, June 4, 2009 ,
Doncaster have expressed an interest in Jermaine Beckford after Leeds rejected their bid for Australian midfielder Neil Kilkenny.
Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll is keen on Beckford, according to his assistant Richard O'Kelly, who said Rovers failed in a bid to land Leeds' Kilkenny.
Elland Road boss Simon Grayson refused to sanction the move for the 23-year-old and Rovers are now pondering a move for the want-away striker instead.
"We would be interested in Beckford after we heard he was available but he might be out of our budget but we will monitor that," O'Kelly told his club's official website.
"He (Grayson) told us that Neil still figured in his plans so at this time that's as far as it's gone," O'Kelly added. "As with every player at every club, they all have a price, so it's an ongoing thing at the moment and we will see if anything happens."
A statement on Doncaster's official website revealed: "This week, Sean made it known he had spoken to Leeds United manager Simon Grayson about the availability of Neil Kilkenny but had been turned down and told he was not for sale."
Kilkenny joined Leeds for £150,000 in January 2008 after spells with Birmingham and Oldham.
The Socceroo was linked with a move to the Keepmoat Stadium in January after falling out of favour, but he went on to win his place back following Grayson's appointment.
