Chairman to take time over appointment

Dundee United, 13:43, January 19, 2010 ,

Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson says he will not rush into appointing a new manager at Tannadice.

Following the Terrors' failed bid to secure the services of Pat Fenlon as boss from Irish side Bohemians a few weeks ago, caretaker manager Peter Houston has done a good job - winning three games on the trot without conceding a goal.
Houston insists he does not want the job on a permanent basis and Thompson says he will take his time to appoint a new manager saying there is no rush especially as results have now picked up.
He said in the Press and Journal: "I'm being accused in some quarters of dragging my heels over appointing a manager - well I'm happy to continue dragging my heels if we are winning games.
"What matters here is getting the right man. We have a new long list at the moment which we will be seeking to whittle down.
"We're also reviewing the criteria we had originally set. It's not so much a case of considering at whether candidates tick all the boxes as whether these are still the right boxes."
Houston will be in charge of United again against his former club, Falkirk, on Sunday.
