Coach in for rest of season
Dundee United, 10:42, February 2, 2010 ,
Dundee United have confirmed Paul Hegarty will be in charge of team affairs at Tannadice until the end of the season.
Hegarty, who had a brief spell as manager of the Terrors between October 2002 and January 2003, returns to the club as full-time coach after being on the lookout for a new job since he was relieved of his duties working alongside George Burley as Scotland boss in November.
He held talks with manager Peter Houston on Monday and the SPL side have now confirmed his arrival - until the end of the season at least.
Houston told the club's website: "I am delighted to welcome Paul back at the club where he needs no introduction.
"From our time together at Hearts, I know him to be a first-class coach who will fit in perfectly with the way we train and play at Dundee United."
Hegarty himself admitted he was delighted with the move, saying: "I am equally delighted to be back at my old club and pleased to assist the manager in every form.
"The team is in a very good position in terms of performance and league position, and it is our wish to continue that.
"I have watched United quite a few times this season and have been impressed with the attitude and performance of the team."
