Dods calls for defensive solidity

Dundee United, 14:43, February 4, 2010 ,

Dundee United defender Darren Dods wants to put an end to crowd-pleasing goal-fests with much more solid defensive displays.

The Terrors backline has been breached seven times in the last two games with a 3-3 draw against St Johnstone at Tannadice followed by a 4-4 draw at Kilmarnock.
United renew rivalry with the Saints on Saturday in the Scottish Cup, this time at McDiarmid Park, and Dods wants his team-mates to go back to basics and become harder to break down.
Dods said: "Eight-goal thrillers are great for the fans but from a defensive point of view it's not quite so good.
"You'd always take a 0-0 or a 1-1 draw instead as it shows you're doing your job properly, even if it ruins the fans' fun a bit.
"We've had a couple of very high-scoring games recently so we'd settle for a 1-0 win this time.
"We had a good run not that long ago when we hadn't lost a goal in about four games.
"Now we've lost seven in two games which is disappointing but hopefully we can get back to basics this weekend."
