Francisco Sandaza hopes to start full training again next week after completing his latest spell of rehabilitation in Spain.
The Dundee United striker has not played all season after undergoing a double hernia operation in the summer, but returned to Scotland on Monday after building on his remedial work under the care of Real Madrid's medics.
The 25-year-old will be put through his paces by the Tannadice physio this week before targeting a return to full training after the weekend.
Manager Peter Houston said: "Fran was over in Spain last week. He's come back feeling much better so has done some work with our physio here.
"I spoke to him today and he's hoping to be able to step it up next week and get back involved with the rest of the squad.
"We'll wait and see how he gets on. It would be great to get him involved again because it has been a hard time for him.
"He's over here to play football so has been frustrated at not being able to take part."
