FC Twente boss Steve McClaren has told Newcastle they will need to offer "stupid money" to land striker Luuk de Jong.
Representatives from Newcastle reportedly travelled to Holland this week to hold talks with the Eredivisie outfit over a possible deal for the Netherlands international.
Newcastle are understood to have failed with an initial £8million bid for De Jong earlier in June and McClaren is determined to stand firm.
"Luuk de Jong would stay if it were up to me - unless stupid money is offered. The club know what I think about it," said the former England manager.
Tottenham, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also chasing De Jong after an impressive 39 goals in 76 games for Twente.
