Harry Redknapp hopes Spurs can fight off competition from neighbours Arsenal to complete a move for defender Jan Vertonghen.
The Ajax captain last week revealed a move to White Hart Lane was almost complete, saying it could take "a couple of weeks or maybe days" to finalise the deal. The Belgium defender played in his country's 1-0 defeat to England at Wembley, with speculation suggesting he was sealing a move to Spurs this weekend. However, Redknapp has refuted claims the move is a done deal. "I hope a deal is done but I don't think it's quite finished yet," Redknapp told The Sun. "Jan is a terrific passer and versatile too. He can play at the heart of defence but is also very comfortable at left-back." Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, a long-time admirer of Vertonghen, could yet make a late move for the Belgian.
