Van der Wiel rules out Roma switch

Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel has ruled out a move to Roma and says he will only leave the club to play Champions League football.

The Holland international insists he is happy at the Amsterdam Arena, unless a team playing in Europe's top competition come calling. He wrote on his official website: "It has been suggested, particularly in Italian media, that I have reached an agreement with Roma. "These rumours are not entirely unfounded, but they are still incorrect. My agent Hakim Slimani has spent a day in Rome at the request of Roma and has had a very pleasant meeting with the club. "Roma would like to buy me from Ajax, but Hakim has told them that I prefer a club that will be playing in the Champions League next season." The 24-year-old full-back's contract with Ajax runs out at the end of next season.
