Baines hails Everton progress
Everton defender Leighton Baines says the current team is a 'work in progress' but expects them to get better as the season progresses.
The arrival of Roberto Martinez in the summer and the departure of long term manager David Moyes had been expected to see a drop off in results as the team adjusted to the new regime.
However, Everton have started well and were unbeaten until the Manchester City defeat last weekend.
The Merseysiders are currently seventh in the Premier League with 12 points from their opening seven games.
Baines, who is almost certain to start for England against Montenegro on Friday, believes the side will continue their upward progression and he is enjoying the new regime.
"It's a work in progress but we're working towards being a much better team," said Baines. "I'm enjoying that aspect of it. I'm learning and hopefully we will continue to build on what we've started.
"We've been working on different things and people have begun to enjoy watching some of them.
"We've just got to tighten up the other aspects and keep developing."
Baines added to the Liverpool Echo: "We've still got things we need to improve on.
""Now we want to come back from the international break and get back to winning ways."
