Champions League hopes played down
Roberto Martinez has played down any hopes the side may have of landing a Champions League place at the end of the season.
Everton lost the last unbeaten record in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime after defeat at Manchester City and they slipped out of the last four at the same time.
Prior to that fans had been talking about possibly landing a Champions League place at the end of the season but Martinez has been quick to play down expectations.
"We are still very early in the season, it would be foolish for us to be saying that now," he told the Post. "We need to use the first two-thirds of the season to see how many points we can get.
"Then we'd go into the last third fighting for it. I'm very pleased with the squad, we have a great mixture of young talent and experience and it excites me - but it's too early to say what we'll be fighting for."
