Ecuador ace on verge of Toffees deal

Everton, 09:00, August 28, 2008 ,

Red Star Belgrade's Ecuador international midfielder Segundo Castillo is set to become Everton's second signing this week.

Toffees boss David Moyes has struggled to bring new faces into Goodison Park this summer, but vowed to have around seven new arrivals on board before the transfer deadline at midnight on Tuesday. And following a completed deal to take Denmark international right-back Lars Jacobsen to Merseyside, it now looks like 26-year-old Castillo will be joining the ranks.
The deal will bring an end to Moyes' search for a midfielder this summer after his failure to sign Tiago and Joao Moutinho, while it will also help ease the disappointment of losing out to rivals Liverpool for Espanyol winger Albert Riera.
Castillo did have a trial with Premier League outfit Blackburn earlier in the summer, but could not agree terms on a move to Ewood Park. It is thought he will initially join the Toffees on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move next summer after the formalities of a medical and securing a work permit from the Home Office.
