Everton midfielder Darron Gibson is aiming to improve on his scoring record when the new Premier League season finally gets underway.

The former Manchester United man netted just once for the Toffees last term in their memorable win against Manchester City, but he is determined to do better this time around as he gears up for his first full campaign on Merseyside. Gibson, who hasn't finished on the losing side once in the Premier League since joining Everton from United in January, knows he is more than capable of increasing his goals tally with his shooting abilities. The 24-year-old told the club's official website: "More goals would be my main aim and obviously just to keep the performances going and hopefully the team can finish higher than last year. "Everyone is buzzing to be back, everyone is looking like they are getting fit and the games come thick and fast now so we are looking forward to it." Gibson has been thrilled with the way it has gone for him since leaving United and pinpoints his winning goal against City at Goodison Park as a major factor behind his impressive form. The Republic of Ireland international added: "The first few games I probably wasn't as good as I was in the last few games, but the goal against City settled my nerves a bit, got me into my stride and playing well - it did settle me down. "I probably didn't (expect to play as much) to be honest. I expected to get some games but I didn't expect to start every game I was fit and available for, which I was delighted with. "Obviously when I came in the team was on a roll, everyone was playing well and it helped me out a lot. So hopefully we can keep going from the way we played last year and kick on."
