David Moyes says he cannot understand why Fabio Capello continues to omit Everton's Phil Jagielka from his England squad.
The 26-year-old has established himself as a regular in the Blues side this season after holding down a centre-back role, having previously been used as a holding midfielder.
Despite impressing the Everton boss with his recent performances, it appears the England coach is yet to be convinced, having decided instead to call-up Chelsea's on-loan youngster Michael Mancienne instead.
Moyes told the Sun: "Put it this way, he's playing as well if not better than he was last season, when he was included in the England squad.
"It's hard enough picking my own team without trying to tell someone else what to do but Jags has been playing as well as I have seen him.
"He has been our most consistent player this season and his pace, athleticism and strength have been impressive.
"Maybe if he keeps that up he will get in again."
