Everton defender Phil Jagielka has been called-up by England as a replacement for the injured Gareth Barry for Euro 2012.
The Manchester City star limped off in the second half of England's 1-0 friendly win over Norway on Saturday and he underwent a scan on Monday afternoon to determine the severity of the injury.
Those scans have since revealed a tear in his lower abdomen, which rules him out of this summer's Championships.
Jagielka, who played the full 90 minutes in Oslo at the weekend, has been promoted from the stand-by list to the full squad.
"I'm very disappointed to lose Gareth, not only was he a member of my original 23-man squad but he has featured prominently in the England team over the last few years," said England boss Roy Hodgson.
"I know how much he wanted to be part of the tournament but I'm sure he will still have a part to play with England after the Euros. I wish him a speedy recovery."
Hodgson has to confirm his final 23-man squad for the tournament by 11am BST on Tuesday.
