Midfield injury setback for Blues

Everton, 09:04, August 12, 2008 ,

Everton's Steven Pienaar will miss the start of the season and could be out until October after breaking his foot.

The South African, who made his move to the club permanent at the end of last season, hobbled off midway through the second half of Everton's friendly with Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven on Saturday and now looks likely to be out for up to six weeks.
Boss David Moyes is already short of midfield players following the departure of Lee Carsley and the injury to Tim Cahill so the injury to Pienaar is another major blow.
The manager is likely now to be forced to step up his efforts to land players in the transfer market, with the Blues still looking for their first capture of the summer window.
