Everton midfielder Darron Gibson has denied he was a failure at Manchester United and said he moved to get regular football.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder has been in excellent form since moving to Goodison Park in January and as he prepares for his first return to Old Trafford since he was sold he has hit back at claims he didn't make his mark there. Gibson believes he was never handed the opportunity to prove himself in the United set up with just 14 League starts in over six years at the club. He told Sky: "As a footballer you want to play and when it came down to it, I wasn't playing as much as I would have liked. "That meant I had to move. Some people say I failed at United and towards the end I wasn't playing my best. "I've come here to start showing people how good a player I am. "I wouldn't say I failed at United, I'd say I never got the chance I wanted."
