Moyes offers £5m for defender

Everton, 16:33, June 16, 2009 ,

Everton are closing in on their first summer signing after making a £5million offer for Sheffield United full-back Kyle Naughton.

As revealed earlier this week, the Blues have been tracking the highly-rated defender after watching him on several occasions last season, when he played a key role in getting the Blades to the play-off final.
The 20-year-old right-back, who was born in Sheffield, has made 40 appearances for the Yorkshire club and is also known to have caught the eye of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
It is understood that Sheffield United were wanting at least £5million for the England Under-21 international, who would offer competition for Tony Hibbert at right-back should he make the move to Goodison.
