Moyes struggles to land targets
Everton, 09:08, August 22, 2008 ,
Rennes have reiterated their desire to keep Everton target Stephane M'Bia, while Juventus midfielder Tiago has snubbed the club.
Toffees boss David Moyes has been chasing 22-year-old Cameroon international M'Bia for most of the summer, but has been constantly rebuffed by the Ligue 1 outfit. And despite M'Bia expressing his desire for a move to Goodison Park following his return from Olympic Games duty with his country, Rennes are refusing to offload him.
"Our position has not changed," said Rennes general manager Pierre Dreossi. "We remain determined to retain Stephane M'Bia and I repeat this decision is firm and final."
Meanwhile, 27-year-old Portuguese international midfielder Tiago has now turned down the opportunity of moving to the Toffees on a 12-month loan deal which would have cost the Merseysiders £4million.
The player, who is out of favour with Juve boss Claudio Ranieri, said: "I will not be going to Everton."
Moyes is also thought to be in the race to sign Valencia's giant Serbian international striker Nikola Zigic, who is wanted by Premiership rivals Blackburn. He is in the market for a new striker after allowing Andy Johnson to leave for Fulham during the close season.
