New Jagielka bid expected
Arsenal are planning to make an increased offer of £15m for Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka as they look to shore up their rearguard.
The Gunners have already had one bid of £11m knocked back in the last week but manager Arsene Wenger is refusing to give up as he looks to secure the signature of a player the Toffees value at around £18m.
Jagielka joined Everton from Sheffield United in 2007 for what now looks like a bargain £4m, and boss David Moyes would be loathed to lose him.
He sees the England international as a future captain and while his sale would help address the club's shortage of funds, he would rather find other ways to allow him to manoeuvre easier in the transfer market.
Arsenal are determined to bring in fresh personnel though to strengthen the squad ahead of the forthcoming season and Jagielka's name has long since been at the top of Wenger's wanted list to fill the vacancy for a new centre-half.
